An introduction to the work of The Tongole Foundation,
narrated by Clare Balding

The Tongole Foundation is a charity working to meet the economic, social and environmental needs of the most vulnerable communities within Africa and more specifically the Nkhotakota district of Malawi.

Furthermore all who are concerned for the disappearance of rare habitats worldwide are convinced that their future lies in the well being of the people who interact with them. The Tongole Foundation offers a creative solution to respond to the needs of the local community, whilst encouraging community support for the protection of the Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve, the oldest and largest in Malawi.

Many people in the Nkhotakota district, just like the rest of the country, live in extreme poverty – on less than a dollar a day. It is the poor themselves who understand first hand the causes, nature and extent of these challenges. Our values reflect this reality: empowerment and participation; transparency, openness, and equality.
